Obituary of Thelma Lorene Lands

Please share a memory of Thelma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Thelma Lorene Hammac was born on April 11, 1938, in Grays Knob, Kentucky.  She was the daughter of Noah Hammac and Thelma (Renfroe) Hammac. In 1949, she moved with her family to Belleville, Michigan.

Following marriage to her former spouse, Robert Mullins, she made her home in Monroe.  During this union Thelma was blessed with six children.  In 1984, she wed the love of her life, Herbert Lands, and she then welcomed his four children into their blended family. For more than a decade, she was employed as a dietary cook at Beach Nursing Home.

A devout Christian, Thelma was a longtime parishioner of Victory Temple Church of God in Monroe.  She also volunteered her time at the Damascus House Charity Thrift Shop in Monroe for four years. Thelma shared her love of the Lord with others through several different capacities from her card ministry and spending time visiting with shut-ins and the elderly.  She always placed God first in her life, followed closely by her beloved children and grandchildren.

Thelma truly saw the beauty in everything.  She had a great appreciation for all of God’s gifts including the natural splendor of the outdoors and the innocence of children.  She spent many summers perched on her deck listening to the birds sing or tending to her garden. Although she aspired to travel the world, Thelma stayed close to home.

Thelma Lorene Lands, age 85, of Monroe, passed away peacefully at Schnepp Senior Care and Rehab Center in St. Louis, Michigan on Monday; January 22, 2024.  Her passing was preceded by her parents; her husband: Herbert Lands; a son: Eugene Mullins; four brothers: Frank Hammac, Edward Hammac, Robert Sargent, and Estill Royale Thomas; and one sister: Dollie Joann Hammac.
