Susanne Cousineau of Honolulu, Hawaii, and long time resident of Boyne City, Michigan died on Saturday the 18th of May 2013 at Kuakini Medical Center in Honolulu with her son and daughter-in-law by her side.
She was born to the late Raymond and Susan Collins in Birmingham, Michigan on the 9th of April 1928. Susanne graduated from Birmingham High School in 1946 and matriculated to Syracuse University. She married the late Robert Cousineau in 1972 and they lived together in Birmingham before moving to the house they built in Boyne City in 1975.
Susanne loved animals and people and gave equal time to both. She raised and rode horses, cared for dogs, and gave stray cats a home. She enjoyed good food, family, and friends. Her home was always the center of some social activity. When she moved Up North she took up golf and cross-country skiing and enjoyed these pursuits late into her life.
Susanne was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1999. She is survived by her son Clark Sorensen of Honolulu, step-son Ronald of Bloomfield Hills, and step-daughter Judy of Utica. She is also survived by one grandchild and nine step-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church, 2238 Manhattan Street in Erie, Michigan on Thursday, July 25 at 11:00am. Merkle Funeral Service, 9156 Summit Street in Erie (734) 848-5185 has been entrusted with her memorial mass and procession will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery for inurnment. A luncheon will follow at the Erie Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3925.
