Obituary of Walter Betts
Walter “Walt” Betts was born on May 12, 1958 in Detroit, Michigan. He was one of three children born from the union of Norman Frederick Sr. and Celeste (Miller) Betts. Walt attended and graduated from Jefferson High School with the class of 1976. After graduation, Walt was a journeyman roofer with Schreiber Roofing Company and a member of Roofers Local 149. He spent over twenty-five years in his trade.
Walt enjoyed keeping active - one of his favorite activities being teeing one up at Old Town in Monroe. He took pleasure in golfing so much he would play nearly every day not only to get the five-dollar daily deal, but to try to improve his game.
Walt cherished the times he could hang out and drop a line in Lake Erie with his brother and his good friends. In years past, Walt could also be found shooting a game of pool at a local bar or pool hall.
As an avid Detroit Sports fan, Walt would root for victory for his favorite football team, the Detroit Lions, every season. He would also let it be known when there were some faults with the players and plays. He remained a true Lion, even when the team was not successful.
To keep up with his health, Walt would ride his bicycle regularly in addition to being a member with Planet Fitness.
Walter Betts, age 62 of Monroe, passed away at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital on Thursday December 24, 2020 at 11:17p.m. In addition to his passing, he is preceded by both his parents, one sister: Susan; one brother: Norman Jr.; one half-sister: Delores; one nephew: Gary Betts and one niece: Celeste Bitzer.
To cherish his memory, Walt leaves his sister-in-law: Beverly Betts; two nieces: Sally (Jason) Gendron and Lori (Seth) Borowski; one nephew: Gary Conradson; many great nieces and great nephews and two good friends: Eric and Rich.
